Frequently Asked Questions

What will my son gain from this program?  Each young man has the opportunity to learn the importance of being of service to others, to accept responsibility, and to develop his own leadership qualities while having fun and learning by doing in a values-based environment.

Who can be a member? Any young man between the ages of 9 and 12 may become a member of The Order of the Squires of the Round Table, which is part of the Second DeMolay District of Ohio and DeMolay International.  He must only fill out an application consisting of his name, address, phone number, and parent's signature to join the Second District Manor.  No sponsor is required.

Who is in charge of the program?  This program is sponsored by the Second DeMolay District of Ohio, whose Governor appoints a Manor Advisor.  That advisor is responsible for the operation of the Manor.  DeMolay chapters are sponsored by masons.  Therefore, most manor activities will take place in a Masonic Hall or in the residence of the Manor Advisor.  In addition, an active DeMolay member will be appointed "Sir Knight" by the District Governor to serve as a role model and may assist the Manor Advisor.

Who may attend Squires meetings?  The Squires meetings are open to Squires members, their family and friends.  There is no requirement for fraternal affiliation.  In fact, Squires membership is an invitation for family involvement and the Squire is usually accompanied by a parent or guardian to meetings and activities.

Do these young men have their own ceremonies?  Yes, Squires ceremonies include Meeting Opening, Closing, Induction and Installation of Officers.  These ceremonies provide an opportunity for the Squires to develop self-confidence and public speaking ability and serve to reinforce the important values of the program.  The ceremonies emphasize the values of Wisdom, Truth, and Justice using symbols and terms from the age of Chivalry and the Knights of the Round Table.  The Second District Manor has six officers; Master Squire, Senior Squire, Junior Squire, Squire Recorder, Squire Chaplain, Squire Marshal.

What other activities are there?  Our Manor has at least one service project and one "Fun Activity" each six-month term.  These projects may be in conjunction with the local DeMolay Chapters. Since the Squires are future DeMolays it is important that they get to know the members of the local DeMolay Chapters.  Squires are covered by insurance under DeMolay International and can therefore participate in fun activities and service projects of their local DeMolay Chapter as well.

How much does membership cost?  There is no initiation fee or dues for membership in the Squires.  There may be some expense for outside activities such as swimming, bowling, or other activities the Manor decides to participate in.
